Michael Glezerson : Glez
Michael began his artistic voyage in 2022, showcasing exceptional talent and enthusiasm for sculpture, despite his lack of formal training in the field. His father, a proficient motor mechanic and panel beater, exposed him to the world of tools and metalwork from a young age. Growing up amidst the intricate art of welding and metal manipulation, Michael cultivated a deep interest in these techniques.
It was only at the age of 61 that Michael embraced sculpting as a weekend pastime. A thoughtful gift from his wife and children—an 8-week course at the prestigious Australian National Art School—ignited his creative capabilities. This course served as a turning point, unleashing Michael's latent artistic talents.
Michael entered the art scene later in life, but his dedication to sculpture shines through in every creation. Working with salvaged materials, he transforms rusted, bent, and broken scraps of steel into expressive artworks. His sculptures resonate with emotion and narrative, masterfully bending metal to his vision. Michael’s story is a testament to the idea that it's never too late to follow one's passions. With the right encouragement and opportunities, anyone can uncover their inherent talents and produce remarkable art. Reflecting on what defines compelling art, Michael believes, “To recognize a good sculpture, the work-of-art must make the viewer pause, and delay the eye.”
